Hunting
I only hunt coyotes and gophers, and that's good for you because it leaves more ducks. I don't shoot them off before you get here. A local hunter, David Shockman, tells me we have terrific consistent DIVER hunting here.
DUCKS common to our area:
Blue bill
Ring-necks
Buffleheads
Canvasbacks
Redheads
Mallards
Pintails
Gadwalls
Spoonbill (Northern Shoveler)
Wigeons
CRANE come through and love our stubble fields.
GEESE:
Snow geese (blue geese)
Canada geese
Giant Canada geese
Greater White Fronted geese (Speckle Belly)
Ross geese
PHEASANT
GROUSE
PARTRIDGE
COYOTES
WHITE TAIL DEER
"Overrun" is the word used by locals to describe the Whitetail Deer population and, indeed, it's nearly impossible to travel more than a couple of miles over the property with out encountering at least one or two. It's not at all unusual for them to wander among the buildings at the main ranch, grazing or cleaning up loose grain.
Terrain and Habitat
All of the areas designated for visiting hunters are posted so that hunting rights are reserved exclusively for you. Maps and detailed directions will be provided upon your arrival, or ahead of time at your request.
The terrain itself varies from rolling hills and wetlands (large water miles across or intermediate to small potholes) to crop land which is, of course, particularly attractive to game birds. There are over 1000 acres of crop stubble available for you to hunt.
